The Voigtländer & Sohn Extra Rapid Euryscope Series IV is very well known and loved by the wetplate community. You will find the smaller version of this lens up to No. 5 quite often beeing offered on the internet. The No. 6 is quite rare on the other hand and show up only once every couple of years. But a No. 7 comes around only once every couple of years.

This lens comes with a massive focal lenght of 24.5" (or 620mm) and a starting aperture of F6. According to the catalouge it could be used wide open up to 18"x22" In reality it will cover even more up to 20"x24".


History: A masterpiece of german lens making from the early 1880ies. The Voigtländer Extra Rapid Euryscop offers the best of the 2 worlds, its well corrected (way more then the petzval design), but also offers a quite high open aperture of F5.6 (way faster then the stadard aplanat). The series number is 42.944, which dates it back to the year 1892.



Condition: The lens is in absolute collectors condition. The brass shows some character and was not polished, overall it shows a fantastic patina. The glass is in great condition also, it shows only very very minimal specs and maybe a cleaning mark here ot there. Otherwise it is really clear and free of haze or fungus. A stunning beauty from 1890ies which you wont find very often, if at all, on the market.

The very best about this lens is that it comes as a complete time capsule: it features not only the original flange, and the original leather lenscap, but it also comes with three original waterhouse stops! The fact that every part of this set is still together after over 130 years, is an amazing fact.
