C. W. Häring Portrait Petzval 350mm F4.5
€1500.00 EUR
History: A very interesting Portrait petzval for the 8x10 format. Lens is engraved with:
'No. 473 - C. W Häring - Braunschweig'
Häring was a leading employee at Voigtländers Workshop in Braunschweig. Later in the late 1850ies, Häring started out with his own optical workshop in Braunschweig. His knowledge and craftsmanship guaranteed the same
quality level as Voigtländer did.
A recently petzval lens made by Häring was dated to 1864 (it had the serial No 391), the Serial number on this lens is 473, even with a
smaller production rate compared to Voigtländer, it is still safe to say
that the lens must have been made in the year 1865-66.
Condition: the lens is in a collectors condition, showing some amount of wear but also a fina and authentic patina. The rack &
pinion is comple and working. The glass is in really really good
condition, it shows some cleaning marks
as always and feint scratching markon the rear element, but overall it is very clear and doesnt show any signs of
seperation, haze or fungus. All in all i tested this baby on
the ground glass and the image was very nice with a very sharp center.
This lens
has about 350mm focal lenght (14") and an open aperture of
F4.5. It will cover 8x10 and 10x12 format with a nice petzval character especially at portrait distance.
Lens comes with a fitting flange and an original waterhouse stop!
