The Carl Zeiss Protar series is a very well known and sought after lens. Especially the early ones with a small focal lenght, which can be used outdoors with minimal weight for landscape photography were and still are on many wishlists. They are overall corrected and known to offer a fantastic image quality in sharpness and contrast.

This specimen is engraved with Carl Zeiss Jena - Anastigmat F:9, which belongs to the Series IIIa. The series was introduced in 1891 and offered a stunning image field, which was overall corrected and sharp, even in the corner areas. It was for many decades considered the best lens for interios, monuments and reproduction. In 1900 it was renamed with the well known name 'Protar'.

The condition of the lens is very good. The golden laquere is authentic and shows only minimal wear. The glass is in a good condition, there are some very fine dust specs here and there. There is no haze and no fungus. The aperture is moving freely and it comes with a flange.

The lens offers a focal lenght of 230mm and a starting aperture of F9. With its imaging angle of 97° it will work perfectly for 8x10 formats and even 10x12 formats as a landscape / interior lnes.
