History: The Dallmeyer lens making company is one of the most famous and most renowed from the first era of photography. The most saught after series of lenses Dallmeyer produces was for sure the famous 'B' series. With its absolute stunning open aperture of F3 and genuine image quality it is a no brainer why the B series lenses are so rarely seen on the free market.

The Serial number (6.961) shows that is a very early lens, which have been documented beeing sold as a 2B in the early 1860ies.

Condition: This brass beauty comes in a good condition. The brass shows quite some patina, but also the authentic golden laquere. I thought about polishing this one, but decided just to clean up some minor parts and leave the patina mostly as it is.
The glass here is in a great condition, there is no speration or any larger scratches, only minimal cleaning marks and two very small dings, the size of an air bubble. The lens comes with a waterhouse slot (no stops included).  The rack & pinion is complete but rather jumpy. As this is a very early Dallmeyer lens, it doesnt feature the patent soft focus mechanism in the rear. Thats not a big loss, since that mechanism doesnt offer much effect first hand.

The 2B offers a focal lengh of 220mm and a starting aperture of F3. It will work best for 4x5 and 5x7 portraiture work. Actually its a dream lens for those formats.

It comes with the original flange.
