History:
The Dallmeyer lens making company is one of the most famous and most
renowed from the first era of photography. The most saught after series
of lenses Dallmeyer produces was for sure the famous 'B' series. With
its open aperture of F3 and genuine image quality it
is a no brainer why the B series lenses are so rarely seen on the free
market. But was it the fastest Dallmeyer series out there? What only a few know, is that Dallmeyer also made a very small batch of super fast petzval lenses with a whooping open aperture of F2.2!
They called this very explusive lenses the C series. It did consist of only two lenses, the 2C and the 3C for small formats small children photography.
This is a very special 2C, since only a handfull were ever made, and even less suirvived to this day. The Serial number (17.550) which dates the lens in the year 1870.
Condition:
This brass beauty comes in a good condition woth any collection. The brass
shows quite a patina, and also the nice golden laquere. The rack &
pinion is complete and moving, though a bit jumpy. The glass on the other hand is in really good condition, there
are some cleaning marks here and there, but otherwise its crispy clear
and shows no seperation or chips. The lens comes with a waterhouse slot.
The 2C offers a focal lengh of 150mm and a starting aperture of F2.2. It will work best for 4x5 portraiture work. With its razor sharp DOF and a nice petzval character it will offer stunning image quality to anyone, who dares to use it.
