Dallmeyer 3D Portrait Petzval 320mm F6

History: The Dallmeyer D series are quite famous and sought after group portrait and landscape lenses. The No.3 of this series is well known for its huge image circle and absolute tack sharp center image and well defined aberrations towards the edges (the typical petzval bokeh).

The serial number is: 88.612 which dates it back into the time of 1910-20ies.

The lens features a focal lenght of 320mm (or 12 1/2") and a F6 starting aperture. Google Dallmeyer 4D or 5D for sample images/plates done with this beauty. There are some out there.

Condition:
The condition of this specimen is very good. The protective black laquere shows only light wear and a fine patina. The glass is clear here, showing only  minor cleaning marks/specs, both wont affect image quality at all, and besides that there is no haze, fungus or any damage. The iris and the soft focus mechanism work as smooth as on the first day.

This is the latest version of the D series, which offers quite some advantages: it offers the front soft focus mechanism instead of the old 'rear operated', it also offers a working iris aperture and its weight is only a fraction of the older lenses, only 570 grams for a 320mm portrait petzval! This makes it way more useable on lightweight field cameras, or cameras with a small lensboard.

With its 320mm focal lenght it will well cover 8x10 ar even 10x12 wide open, and up to 11x14 on portrait range.

Lens comes with a fitting flange.

height: 13cm
width: 8cm
weight: 570gr
