History: The Dallmeyer D series are quite famous and sought after group portrait and landscape lenses. The No.5 of this series is well known for its huge image circle and absolute tack sharp center image and well defined aberrations towards the edges (the typical petzval bokeh).
This lens is engraved with the Serial number 13.107 which dates it back to the year 1864.
The lens
features a focal lenght of 480mm (or 19") and a F6 starting aperture.
Google Dallmeyer 4D or 5D for sample images/plates done with this
beauty. There are some out there.
Condition: The
condition of this lens is very good and worthy of any collection. The protecting laquere is intact and shows only minimal wear. The glass is good here, there are some circular cleaning marks on the front element, but nothing that would affect the image quality. The image on the groundglass is tack sharp in the center.
With its 480mm focal lenght it will well cover 12x15 ar even 14x17 wide open.
