Darlot (Jamin) portrait Petzval 160mm F4
This absolute nice piece of photographic history comes from the early 1860ies just when Darlot took over Jamins workshop, the lenses were engraved Darlot ANCne Mon Jamin.
The lens is not only engraved on the main sleeve, but features a lead pencil marking on the rear element reading: 'Darlot Paris - 1869'.
Condition: The brass looks really nice and authentic here, there is only light wear (it is unpolished). The rack & pinion mechanism is complete and amazingly still working. The lens was retrofitted withe a waterhouse slot (no stops included).
most important thing: the glass is amazingly clean for most part, and shows
only very minimal cleaning marks (if any at all!). The only real sign of age is a crack on the rearmost element. Still it doesnt affect the image quality, i tested the lens on the groundglass and it still shows the original (still Jamin) sharpness and character!
The lens has a focal lenght of 160mm at a speed of F4. It will work best for the 4x5 and smaller formats, showing the distinct petzval characteristic on the ground glass.
Lens comes with a flange and the original brass lenscap!
