Soupault Paris Portrait Petzval 200mm F3
€800.00 EUR
History: This absolute nice piece of photographic history comes from around the 1870ies. The lens is engraved on the main sleeve:
'Optique - SOUPAULT - Rue du Roi de Siecle - PARIS - PRECISION'
Soupault was an early french lensmaker located in Paris. Like E. Francaise or Millet he focused on making only a handfull of lenses instead of mass production. His lenses were well known for their optical precision as well as built quality.
This specimen is one of the very few from the fastest that Soupalt ever made. It was made for bad light situations or children photography and offers an open aperture of aprox. F3. It can be compared to Dallmeyers 2B or Ross Cabinet lenses in speed and quality.
Condition: The
brass looks really nice and authentic here, there is only minimal wear (it is unpolished) if at all.
The rack & pinion mechanism is complete and amazingly still working smoothly.
The lens comes witha waterhouse slot but no stops. The
most important thing: the glass is amazingly clean for most part, and shows
only minor cleaning marks.
The
lens has a focal lenght of 200mm (8") at a speed of F3. It will work best
for the 4x5 and 5x7 formats, showing the distinct petzval
characteristic on the ground
glass.
Lens comes with a flange and the selfmade lenscap.
