E. Suter Portrait Petzval 280mm F3.5 (very early!)
History: A very early Portrait petzval for the
5x7 and 8x10
format. E. Suter was one of the earliest and most reknowed optical
makers in the early years of photography in Switzerland. He was well known and
respected for his well built Aplanat series, and also for the Rapid
Portrait series which had a portrait petzval layout. The lens features the engraving:
' No. 406 - E. SUTER OPT. - BASEL.'
Condition: The lens is in an absolute collectors condition! The brass of the lens comes with a golden patina, showing only minimal wear (only to the hood actually). The glass is in a really good condition, with minimal cleaning marks and a couple of edge chips in the rear element, which wont affect the image to the slightest(!), otherwise it is super clear.
has about 280mm focal lenght (11") and an open aperture of
F3.5. It will cover 5x7 and 8x10 format with a nice petzval character especially at portrait distance.
Lens comes with the original flange, and also a fitting waterhouse stop (F8).
