french Portrait Petzval 180mm F2.9
This quite nice Petzval design lens comes in a great condition. The
brass shows some authentic patina and was not polished. The
rack & pinion is there, but doesnt really work (though you can move the outer sleeeve by hand). The
glass is in good condition also, there are tiny edge chips on the front
glass, and a small scratch on the rear lens, but thinking that this lens is about 130 years old, its still incredibly clear. There is nothing that would affect the image quality, there is no haze or fungus.
The lens doesnt feature an engraving, but that was a common thing with many early petzval lenses from france. But the rear glass offers a lead writing which is not quite clear, it is probably the makers name which reads something like: 'Bourguin'? and 'F2.9'.
If you have any leads to that makers name, please feel free to contact me.
It has a focal lenght of 180mm at a speed of around F3. It will work best as a portrait lens for 4x5 and 5x7 formats with a distinct petzval characteristic on the ground glass.
Lens comes with the original flange and self made lenscap.
