Gasc & Charconnet Portrait Petzval 220mm F3.3
History: This very interesting Portrait Petzval lens comes with a french engraving, which reads: 'D. HUTINET - Paris'. Interestingly enaugh there is no info of an optial workshop with that name. The making of the brass parts on the other hands looks very much like Gasc & Charconnets workshop (i had a similar lens from them about 2 years ago). It was a common practise back then, especially among the french makers to sell their lenses unbranded, or brand them with the name of the photographic studio they sold the lens to.
The brass looks really good here, there is only minimal wear and signs of use. The rack & pinion is complete, and still works mostly. It comes with a waterhouse, though no
stops are included. The glass looks clean and shows no haze or fungus, there
are some cleaning marks as always, but that wont
affect the image quality of this beauty.
The lens has a focal lenght of 220mm at a speed of F3.3. It will cover 4x5 and 5x7 with distinct petzval characteristic on the ground glass.
The lens shows quite many similarities with the famous Ross C.deV. Petzval. In the last picture you can see both lenses side by side, for comparison (Ross lens is not included in this listing).
Lens comes with a fitting flange.
