History: This absolute nice piece of photographic history comes from the early 1860-70ies. The lens is engraved with: 'Gasc & Charconnet - Paris'. The Serial number is 16.807. G&C was a highly respected manufacturer who was founded just in the begining of the photographic era in 1860ies, and which made high quality lenses that were also exported to the US in later years.

Condition: The brass looks really nice and authentic here, there is only light wear. The rack & pinion mechanism is complete and working (though a bit jumpy). The lens comes without a waterhouse slot which was commong in the late 50ies - early 60ies. The glass is mostly clean and shows no haze, fungus or anything that would diminish the optical qualities (only the usuall cleaning marks).

The lens has a focal lenght of 200mm at a speed of F3.3. It will cover 4x5 and even 5x7 format at portrait distance with distinct petzval characteristic on the ground glass.
