Gasc & Charconnet Petzval 200mm F3.3
History: This absolute nice piece of photographic history comes from the early 1860-70ies. The lens is engraved with:
'Quick Acting - G&C - Portrait Lens Patent - Gasc & CharconnetParis'
The Serial number is 14.325. G&C was a highly
respected manufacturer who was founded just in the begining of the
photographic era in 1860ies, and which made high quality lenses that were
also exported to the US in later years. The Quick Acting series was the fastest series of portait petzvals that they offered at that time.
Condition: The brass looks really nice and authentic here, there is some wear here and there but also a fantastic and preserved patina. The rack & pinion mechanism is complete and working. The lens comes with a waterhouse slot and no stops are included. The glass is mostly clean and shows only a minor 1cm long mark at the edge of the front achromat, that will not affect image quality at all. There is no haze, fungus or anything that would diminish the optical qualities (only the usuall cleaning marks).
The lens has a focal lenght of 200mm at a speed of F3.3. It will cover 4x5 and even 5x7 format at portrait distance with distinct petzval characteristic on the ground glass.
Lens comes with a flange and is ready to shoot!
