Gilles Faller Portrait petzval 290mm F3.8
History: A very interesting Portrait petzval for the 8x10
format. The maker was mostly famous for his superb quality cameras in the early days of photography. But he wasnt limited only to cameras but also made lenses. This is a fine and quite rare example of his craftsmanship.
Condition: the lens is in very nice and authentic condition. The brass of the lens comes with an authentic and warm patina, showing only minimal wear. The rack & pinion is comple but is hardly working. The lens offers a waterhouse slot (no stops included). The glass is in really really good condition, it shows only very light cleaning marks, and a tiny edge chip in the rear, but overall it is very clear and doesnt show any signs of seperation, haze or fungus. All in all i tested this baby on the ground glass and the image was very nice with a very sharp center.
has about 290mm focal lenght (11") and an open aperture of
F3.8. It will cover 5x7 and 8x10 format with a nice petzval character especially at portrait distance.
Lens comes with a fitting flange.
