Condition: This quite nice Convertible Petzval design lens comes in avery good condition. The brass comes with a nice glow and minimal wear but its still a beauty to look upon. The rack & pinion is there and works quite well. The glass is in good condition, there are some hairline marks on the rear, but that wont affect image quality. There is no haze, fungus or anything similar.

History: Hermagis was one of the early optical makers who also adopted the petzval formula and was quite famous for his optical and mechanical quality. When you hold the lens in your hand you can feel that its a top quality photographic lens, not a cheaper laterna magica projecting lens. The interesting part here is that the lens features a convertible layout. It can be used as a normal portrait petzval lens, but it also quite easily be transformed into a landscape lens with about 660mm FL at around F10.



In portrait mode the focal lenght is 330mm at a speed of F3.8. It will cover 8x10  and even more 10x12 with a distinct petzval characteristic on the ground glass.



The lens comes with a fitting flange and one waterhouse stop.
