Taylor Hobson Cooke Aplanat 400m F8
History: The Taylor Hobson Cooke company was well known for the optical and built quality. This speciman is a good example for the Aplanat (also called Rapid Rectilinear) layout lens. It was introduced 1866 and very fast became the to go landscape lens, since it offered a lightweight and compact design combined with an absolute corrected image field.
Lens comes with a working iris aperture!
Condition: The brass looks really good here, there is minimal to no wear. It is unpolished and still shows the fatnastic patina of over 100 existance. It is coated with a dark golden laquere which still protects the brass beneath. The glass is a great condition also, beeing clear and without any haze or fungus.
With its focal lenght of about 400mm and an image circle of about 600mm it will cover formats up to 30cm x 40cm (or 14"x17"). The lens is overall corrected (aplanat design) and shows a remarable sharpness all throughout the image field.
The lens comes with a fitting flange!
