Vallantin portrait Petzval 300mm F3.5
€1200.00 EUR
History: A very interesting Portrait petzval for the 8x10 format. Vallantin honed his skill for many years in the workshop of Lerebours, and opened his own workshop in 1856. His skill were highly praised and he was quite succesfull, but his brand was sold on 1860. This early specimen comes from the late 1850ies since it doesnt feature a waterhouse slot, but rather place for a washer stop mechanism.
Vallantin lenses are rarelly seen on the market, considering his well known optical and built quality, this early lens is a great piece for a collection or also an authentic early wetplate setup.
Condition: The
lens is in
very nice and authentic condition. The brass of the lens comes with an
authentic and warm patina, showing only minimal wear. The glass is in really
really fantastic condition, considering its age. I cant even make out any cleaning marks here, which is really really rare for such an old lens. All in all i tested this baby on
the ground glass and the image was very nice with and tack sharp in the center.
This lens
has about 300mm focal lenght (12") and an open aperture of
F3.5. It will cover 5x7 and 8x10 format with a nice petzval character especially at portrait distance.
Lens comes with a fitting flange.
