If you ask seasoned shooters what favourite lens they would name, many would say a Heliar. Those are masterpieces of german optical design and famous in the Large format community for their smooth portrait rendering and absolute stunning bokeh. Just google up the internet for sample images shot with Heliar.

Now you will find Heliars here and there on ebay, ive sold myself quite a couple. Mostly 300mm and 360mm focal lenght. I also had a couple of 420mm in my hands during the last 3 or 4 years. But this is one of the very few 480mm that have been offered for years, in real life and here on ebay. There were only a few of those beasts that were ever made by Voigtländer and were insanly(!) expensive back then. So this might be your one and only chance to aquire one of the finest pieces of optical engineering, there will very likely be no second chance!


It is a really impressive piece. The focal lenght is 480mm (or 19") and the image circle is HUGE here. As long as i remember it was advertised to cover 11x14, but it will undoubtly cover up to 14x17.

The condition of this beauty is quite impressive. This specimen is in absolute 100% working condition: the aperture mooves smoothly forth and back. The most important thing: the glass is in a good condition, showing only some small marks and air bubbles here and there. Voigtländer used only the best glass available for Heliar series. The image on the groundglass is outstanding.
