The Voigtländer & Sohn Portrait d Euryscope Series III is as well reknowed for its image quality as the Series IV. The famous series IV offered a starting Fstop of 6 it focused more on longer group shots and landscape work, the faster Series III offers a stating Fstop of 4.5, which makes it useable with more difficult portrait sitters and low light conditions.

The No. 6A lens comes with a focal lenght of 16" (or 412mm) and a starting aperture of F4.5. According to the catalouge it could be up to 11"x14". In reality it will cover even more up to 12"x15" wide open, maybe even 14x17.

History: A masterpiece of german lens making from the early 1890ies. The Voigtländer Extra Rapid Euryscop offers the best of the two worlds, its well corrected (way more then the petzval design), but also offers a quite high open aperture of F4.5. The series number is 31.706, which dates it back to the year 1887.



Condition: The condition of the lens is stunning good. The brass shows some character and was not polished, overall it shows a fine patina. The glass is in an overall very good condition, minimal specs and cleaning marks like with most authentic lenses from that age. There is no haze, fungus or seperation there. The lens features an iris aperture, which still works smoothly.


The lens comes with a fitting flange and a fitting lenscap.
